Hush, the infamous serial killer who would skin his victims alive. What if jack the ripper was instead, Hush, Thomas Elliot. Hey guys, how's this for an alternate ending, which I feel would have fit a lot better. Overall it's very good! One of the more interesting and better animated features they have put out in a long time. It was so cool to see Dick, Jason and Tim all working together. My favorites were the little Robin orphans. It's cool to see familiar faces in this setting. What makes this are the characters though. Goes a bit fast and doesn't really have much depth to it. Pacing wise it's as expected from a 80 minute movie. The music is great, it elevates this film into a much more cinematic piece. It reminds very much of the 90s animated batman in the way that it's very cartoony, but also has a timeless look to it. While this is still not as fluid as I want out of a "film", nor does it has quite the details, it does look very good. They tend to have a very bland art style and poor animation. I have expressed my disappointment with the animated films post-flashpoint paradox. I never read the Gotham by Gaslight comic, but I gotta say this captures the essence of Batman very well in a very cool and refreshing setting! Plenty of Easter eggs and references, I'd love to see this world expanded upon with characters like The Accelerating Man or The Wonder Woman. Voice acting was pretty good all around, though the Irish accents some characters had were a tad suspect, but that's ultimately nitpicking. The fight scenes were animated very well, they felt incredibly fluid. The quality of animation is definitely a step up from previous films, there was a bit of obvious 3d modeling on the cab driver that was a tad annoying, but ultimately didn't take away from anything. The animation was pretty good, I absolutely appreciate the different art style, I wish they would start using different ones for their films, the "not quite anime" look is getting a bit old. The identity of the villain was actually a surprise which is great, usually they telegraph the identity far too early and the "twist" is never satisfying. The feel was definitely right though, it could have been a bit darker though. Just finished watching it, pretty happy with it, it's not that close to the book in terms of plot, but it was never advertised as such so I can't complain. ![]() Version 1.0 of Firefox was released on November 9, 2004. Microsoft responded by releasing Windows XP Service Pack 2, which added several important security features to Internet Explorer 6. Firefox attracted attention as an alternative to Internet Explorer, which had come under fire for its alleged poor program design and insecurity-detractors cite IE's lack of support for certain Web standards, use of the potentially dangerous ActiveX component, and vulnerability to spyware and malware installation. Although these features have already been available for some time in other browsers such as the Mozilla Suite and Opera, Firefox was the first of these browsers to have achieved large-scale adoption. Among Firefox's popular features were the integrated pop-up blocker, tabbed browsing, and an extension mechanism for adding functionality. The Firefox project went through many versions before version 1.0 and had already gained a great deal of acclaim from numerous media outlets, such as Forbes and The Wall Street Journal. For the abbreviation of Firefox, Mozilla prefers Fx or fx, although it is often abbreviated as FF. The name Firefox was said to be derived from a nickname of the red panda, which became the mascot for the newly named project. After further pressure, Mozilla Firebird became Mozilla Firefox on February 9, 2004. The Mozilla Foundation reassured them that the browser would always bear the name Mozilla Firebird to avoid confusion. The replacement name, Firebird, provoked an intense response from the Firebird database software project. Phoenix was renamed in 2003 due to a trademark claim from Phoenix Technologies. The nascent browser was originally named Phoenix, after the mythical bird that rose triumphantly from the ashes of its dead predecessor (in this case, from the "ashes" of Netscape Navigator, after it was sidelined by Microsoft Internet Explorer in the " First Browser War"). The Firefox project has undergone several name changes. Across all platforms, it again places fourth with a usage share of 2.77%. As of April 2023, according to StatCounter, it had a 5.65% usage share as a desktop web browser, making it the fourth-most popular desktop web browser after Google Chrome (66.1%), Safari (11.87%), and Microsoft Edge (11%). įirefox usage share grew to a peak of 32.21% in November 2009, with Firefox 3.5 overtaking Internet Explorer 7, although not all versions of Internet Explorer as a whole its usage then declined in competition with Google Chrome. It is the spiritual successor of Netscape Navigator, as the Mozilla community was created by Netscape in 1998, before its acquisition by AOL. It was released on November 9, 2004, and challenged Internet Explorer's dominance with 60 million downloads within nine months. During its beta phase, it proved to be popular with its testers and was praised for its speed, security, and add-ons compared to Microsoft's then-dominant Internet Explorer 6. įirefox was created in 2002 under the code name "Phoenix" by members of the Mozilla community who desired a standalone browser rather than the Mozilla Application Suite bundle. An optimized version is also available on the Amazon Fire TV as one of the two main browsers available with Amazon's Silk Browser. Its unofficial ports are available for various Unix and Unix-like operating systems, including FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, illumos, and Solaris Unix. Firefox is available for Windows 7 and later versions, macOS, and Linux. Black-capped Chickadee Nest Boxīlack-capped Chickadees can nest in boxes with entrance holes as small as 1 1/8 inches in diameter. Finally, if bluebirds guard all usable nest boxes in a small area (the Greedy Bluebird scenario), we would expect to find high occupation of “Big/Small” box pairs by nuthatches and chickadees and low occupation by these species of “Big/Big” box pairs. If, however, bluebirds simply defend their own nest cavity (the Tolerant Bluebird scenario), we would expect to find similar (and high) occupancy by nuthatches and chickadees in box pairs of either type that contained bluebirds. If Eastern Bluebirds are intolerant of subordinate cavity-nesters breeding nearby (the Intolerant Bluebird scenario), we would expect to find similar (and low) occupancy by nuthatches and chickadees in box pairs of either type that contained bluebirds. Eastern Bluebirds Scoping Out A Nest BoxĮastern Bluebirds can nest in boxes with holes as small as 1 1/2 inches in diameter. ![]() The larger holes could accommodate bluebirds, chickadees, and nuthatches, but the smaller holes effectively excluded bluebirds. Some of the pairs consisted of two identical nest boxes (both with 1.5-inch entrance holes) while other pairs consisted of one box with a 1.5-inch entrance hole (“Big”) and the other with a 1-inch entrance hole (“Small”). Consequently, we had two treatments that would allow us to narrow down what was going on. But would bluebirds allow smaller species, specifically Carolina Chickadees and Brown-headed Nuthatches, to use the box that they were not using themselves? Of course, the absence of a second species nesting beside a bluebird could be due to any number of factors. Because Eastern Bluebirds are territorial, there was no way that two pairs of bluebirds would nest side-by-side. We installed identical nest boxes in pairs 10 meters (~33 feet) apart. My students and I at Davidson College in North Carolina decided to test this. How then, can one assist smaller birds like chickadees and Brown-headed Nuthatches if they are continually facing competition from larger birds like bluebirds? Could paired boxes ensure the coexistence of chickadees and bluebirds the same way that paired boxes allow bluebirds and Tree Swallows to nest peacefully side by side? On the Tolerance of Bluebirds Body size is often a fairly reliable predictor of interspecific dominance, so it seems likely that larger species (Tree Swallows, bluebirds) might be able to monopolize boxes that smaller species could potentially use. By installing boxes in pairs (close enough that both boxes are unlikely to fill with Tree Swallows), nest box monitors can ensure that their beloved bluebirds have somewhere to nest.īut what about cases where the bluebird, aided by its bigger body size, is the dominant species? In eastern North America, a standard bluebird box is likely to attract a variety of potential residents, many of them smaller than bluebirds. Indeed, fans of Eastern Bluebirds in the upper Midwest long ago began to provide paired nest boxes to ensure that bluebirds were able to coexist with the more aggressive Tree Swallows. Perhaps the simplest way to reduce such competition is to provide multiple nest boxes. This doesn’t mean that there is nothing we can do as nest box monitors to reduce nest site competition. Tree Swallows On The WatchĪdult Tree Swallows will compete with Eastern Bluebirds for nest boxes. This is a natural part of the avian life cycle, and one that humans often have little ability to control. If a dominant species is simply able to monopolize the area around a nest box, subordinate species may not even attempt nesting. ![]() But often nest site competition is so subtle it’s practically invisible (to us). Sometimes one can observe chases and even violence. In particular, many nest box landlords can be disheartened or even upset when multiple species compete for a nest box: it’s not always a pretty sight. However, sometimes nature can be a bit red in tooth and claw. Watching cavity-nesting birds build nests and care for young in our nest boxes is deeply satisfying. To help address future pandemics, researchers need access to swift and effective tools that can be deployed very early, as soon as a threatening disease is identified. That’s why OpenPandemics – COVID-19 was designed to be rapidly deployed to fight future diseases, ideally before they reach a critical stage. Scientists have learned from past outbreaks that pandemics caused by newly emerging pathogens may become more and more common. OpenPandemics – COVID-19 is the first World Community Grid project to harness the power of Raspberry Pi devices, but the World Community Grid technical team is already working to make other projects available for Raspberry Pi very soon. While this process doesn’t happen overnight, it accelerates dramatically what would otherwise take many years, or might even be impossible. World Community Grid combines the results from your device along with millions of results from other volunteers all over the world and sends them to the Scripps Research team for analysis. When a simulated chemical compound fits, or ‘docks’, with a simulation of part of the virus that causes COVID-19, that interaction may point to a potential treatment for the disease. This is a process known as molecular docking, which is the study of how two or more molecules fit together. Over the course of the project, volunteers’ devices will run millions of simulations of small molecules interacting with portions of the virus that causes COVID-19. Finally, your device automatically returns the results of the completed simulation and requests the next simulation. Then, when your device is not using its full power, it automatically runs a simulated experiment in the background that will help predict the effectiveness of a particular chemical compound as a possible treatment for COVID-19. This software program (called BOINC) is used to run World Community Grid projects, and is compatible with the Raspberry Pi OS and most other operating systems. As a World Community Grid volunteer, you download a secure software program to your Raspberry Pi, macOS or Windows computer, or Android device. At Legend's in Columbia, so far and I pray it never changes, the managers, the servers, the cooks, etc. Seriously Legend's in Columbia would not have let this happen and certainly would not tell us that Jumbo don't mean Jumbo, then say the meatballs were made bigger today so you get 2. But if you aren't going to give 3 jumbo meatballs just say it, don't give lame excuses and if you are going to go by the size of the meatballs for the day put a sticky not on the menu that it depends on who rolls the meatballs for the day will determine how many you get. I understand that there is a lot going on in the world especially with food shortages etc. Excuse me but this all made no sense at all. Then went into explaining that the menu says Jumbo Shrimp, but they are not Jumbo. Just because the menu said 3 Jumbo meatballs don't mean Jumbo. The manager (do not recall her name, because she didn't give it to us) told my aunt that the meatballs are made by hand and was made bigger than usual, so you get 2. My Aunt explained that we order the spaghetti and meatballs dinner, but we all received only 2 meatballs. The manager came over no smile, how Ya doing? Glad you came, just a sour face and ask us did we need anything. Brought the issue to the server Ellie who said she would get a manager. ![]() And at 13$ for a plate of spaghetti and 3 jumbo meatballs we want what we are paying for. When we order we order from the menu, the menu stated on the spaghetti dinner included 3 jumbo meatballs. First one of the kid's catfish dinners was raw, the catfish was not cook thoroughly, the server offered our child a different dinner or cook the fish, but since she saw the raw fish, she was against that so went with the kid's spaghetti, ok that is done. Kids grill cheese and 2 kids catfish dinners. Our order included 3 spaghetti and meatball dinners, a cheeseburger meal. We understand the shortage of servers, food, etc. We were a large group 4 adults and 3 children, we are very patient people, so we never mind if there is a wait on food, service etc. Really the only good thing about our visit. To begin with I will say that our server Ellie was super nice and keep checking on us. It is far from being top notch as Legend's in Columbia, yes you might think because I have eaten at Legend's for so long, I am bias but that isn't true, there were several big differences between the restaurants. Needless to say, this will be my and my family's one and done visit. We are planning to move to the area soon and wanted to try the restaurant since it is affiliate with Legend's. This was our first visit to Brass Lantern, we travelled here to eat this evening because we eat a lot at Legend's in Columbia.
